You may have noticed that September 2006 sees the introduction of a new phenomenon in Google. This phenomenon is called Google sitelinks. Google sitelinks appear for some sites when you type in a query for that specific site. If that site is a popular site with more than one popular page then the top listing will show the homepage, with little indented listings of four of the site's deep pages.
Let's take an example to explain this. Let's take the ever popular site moneysupermarket.com. If you type in to Google "moneysupermarket" you will get the below result:
Here we can see that when we type in the search term "moneysupermarket" the top result returned is the homepage, and beneath this we can see listings for four deep pages. These deep page listings: mortgages, cheap loans, insurance and credit cards are what Google calls the "sitelinks". These pages will be the most popular and well linked to pages within the moneysupermarket site, and so these pages are more relevant for the term "moneysupermarket" than any of the listing below.
One strange result though is the next listing down. This is the listing for mortgages again. This is obviously the next most important page that Google can return for the KeyPhrase "moneysupermarket" but because Google has already listed this page it can only be seen as a minor flaw that Google will surely iron out soon.
These sitelinks should be possible for all websites. At Moovin On Up we have evaluated that these sitelinks come about from a good internal link structure. Moovin On Up is able to work with our clients to be able to provide this sitelinks result for all of our clients.
To obtain these results as far as we can deduce early on, the
site or page in question needs to have lots of traffic and be
considered an authority site, although this is just conjecture
now so be sure to check back with us soon to get an update.
